Bournemouth part company with Scott Parker just four games into the season

Bournemouth have parted company with head coach Scott Parker.

The south coast side suffered a 9-0 defeat by Liverpool in their last match, leaving them 17th in the Premier Leaguetable.

In addition to that loss, Parker, 41, had overseen a 4-0 defeat by Manchester City, a 3-0 defeat by Arsenal and a 2-0 victory against Aston Villa upon Bournemouth’s return to the top flight.

First-team coach Gary O’Neil will take interim charge of Bournemouth and will be assisted by Shaun Cooper and Tommy Elphick.

Bournemouth owner Maxim Demin said: “I would like to place on record my gratitude to Scott and his team for their efforts during their time with us.

“Our promotion back to the Premier League last season under his tenure will always be remembered as one of the most successful seasons in our history.

“However, in order for us to keep progressing as a team and a club as a whole, it is unconditional that we are aligned in our strategy to run the club sustainably. We must also show belief in and respect for one another.

“That is the approach that has brought this club so much success in recent history, and one that we will not veer from now. Our search for a new head coach will begin immediately.”

Parker took charge at Bournemouth in the summer of 2021, having left Fulham upon their relegation to the Championship.

He guided Bournemouth to promotion at the first time of asking, finishing second in the table behind his old side.

Bournemouth are next in action on Wednesday, when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers.
